Funny things

Every now and then some chain of events unfolds that is particularly enjoyable in its own sense, but also because it reminds me of something enjoyable in the past. This happened recently. I’m not sure of the exact cause… maybe he saw my post from Blog Action Day, or maybe it was just a random occurrence. It’s very rare that someone just stumbles across my Tumblog and even more rare that they decide to follow me, so I find myself looking for some reason even though it’s really irrelevant.

The story I’m trying to tell is that I got a new follower recently! When I see I have a new follower, I generally check out their page and see what’s going on. I’ve found some really cool sites that way! I spent what was going to be a particularly boring Friday night (because I was on call and couldn’t be more than 15 minutes away from the on-call-batphone and my computer), I started reading the site of my newest follower. I bear false witness is appropriately subtitled, “confessions of a reluctant telemarketer” and it combines witty, dry humor (oooh my favorite) with what many agree is one of the most annoying armpits of professions. Dan Bialek’s 24-day journal of his experience working for a telemarketing firm in July, 2009 is as depressing as it is funny; an interesting combination, one which I read through in one sitting.

Dan, thanks for sharing your experiences and making my last night on call pass a little more quickly. It reminded me of the stinkymeat project, which might just be a perfect reread for a cold, rainy Saturday morning.
