John Callahan vs. Charlie Dent! DEATHMATCH!

lehighvalley:

(Disclaimer: If you prefer not to read about politics then go to the next post cause this may be long and boring. If you wanna read how the mayor of Bethlehem may or may not get it on with young women, go ahead and read.)

Are you ready for some good old fashioned politicking? Well, you’re going to get it whether you like it or not if Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan (who just completely reminds me of Mayor Quimby) decides to challenge the immaculately groomed Charlie Dent for his congressional seat in 2010.

The sparks will surely fucking fly.

Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan will run for Congress against Republican incumbent Charlie Dent in 2010, sources say, setting up a political battle the likes of which the Lehigh Valley hasn’t seen in 17 years.

The two-term mayor has made his decision clear to
Democratic Party leaders in Pennsylvania and Washington and is preparing to put a campaign team in place. An official announcement is expected soon.

The decision is a recruiting coup for national Democrats, who for years have been urging Callahan to challenge Dent. It pegs the 15th District contest as one of the national races to watch next year…

And that’s good for the Valley. Honestly, no matter who wins, the fact that national attention (well a mild spattering of East Coast attention) would do nothing but make the Lehigh Valley stand out a bit more.

Elected in 2003 at 34, Callahan has long been viewed as a rising star in the Democratic Party. He’s president of the Pennsylvania League of Cities and Municipalities. As mayor, he has presided over a period of huge change in Bethlehem, highlighted by the controversial decision to redevelop the former Bethlehem Steel land into a massive retail and entertainment complex anchored by a casino. Dent opposed the casino plan.

Let it be knowng that Callahan also has a reputation of, well, liking his drink. Maybe not as much as Lisa Boscola, but the man has been rumored to be banned from certain establishments for certain …. actions. See, honestly, I really don’t know what I’m legally allowed to type there. I’m goign to check with zoomlegal.com or something and get back to that. But, yeah, he’s not a bad looking dude and apparently likes his young ladies…. I mean, that could mean anything though, totally vague!

(Dent) favors abortion rights and opposes gay marriage and gun control. In Congress, he is a co-chairman of the Tuesday Group, a 34-member coalition of moderate Republicans. His 64 percent lifetime rating by the American Conservative Union is the second lowest among Pennsylvania’s seven-member Republican delegation. Source

I actually like Dent a ton. However, he seems a bit… eh, boring as all mother loving fuck. I know that he has done well for the Valley, but honestly, I couldn’t tell you anything other than that goddamn Da Vinci Horse at the Baum School of Art in Allentown that the man has distinctly done for the Lehigh Valley other than be a pretty face on a burgeoning area.

Maybe we need a slicker guy in office. Maybe John Callahan needs to drink more. Maybe Lisa Boscola will take me on a date. One can never know!
