Happy Father's Day
To all of the fathers out there, this is to you. But first, a little clarification: fa-ther: –noun 1. a male parent. 2. a father-in-law, stepfather, or adoptive father. 3. any male ancestor, esp. the founder of a race, family, or line; progenitor. 4. one who exercises paternal care over other persons; paternal protector or provider: a father to the poor. … 11. a title of respect for an...

This is why you're in a recession
adamisacson: So the CVS by my office has an ATM that only spits out $20s, and if you use it, the fees (your banks and theirs) total up to $4. However, all of the registers, including the self-check, give you cash back with no fees when you use your ATM card. Yesterday I needed cash for cab fare - small bills preferred. I walked past the ATM (a friend of mine calls those hard-to-break ATM 20s...

Split Rock over for another year...
What a busy weekend… yesterday’s wine drinkers were a tough crowd. There for the quick buzz, not interested in what I consider the fun side of wine. I heard barely a thank-you the entire day and worked my ass off non-stop. Add a 20-minute thunderstorm with the sun never coming back out to dry up what would become a swamp, and it was a tough day. Today was more laid back, more people...

Iran - wow
adamisacson: Check out the #IranElection hashtag on Twitter right now. Pretty much your best source for what’s going on. CNN is showing “Video Professor” ads. CNN… you were so ground breaking with live video of war back in the early 90’s. Now this. Shame on you.

Bill Maher on Obama - Los Angeles Times →
Obama needs to start putting it on the line in fights against the banks, the energy companies and the healthcare industry. I never thought I’d say this, but he needs to be more like George W. Bush. Bush was all about, “You’re with us or against us.” Obama’s more like, “You’re either with us, or you obviously need to see another picture of this adorable...

Still love this story! When Capt. Chesley B. Sullenberger III spoke to the 150 passengers of US Airways Flight 1549 on the La Guardia runway on the afternoon of Jan. 15, he remarked what a nice day it was to fly. And soon after they took off, he remarked to his co-pilot, Jeffrey B. Skiles, “What a view of the Hudson today.” … Upon landing in the Hudson, Captain Sullenberger said he...

A Day in the Vineyard
Yesterday I went to the seventh annual “A Day in the Vineyard” event hosted by Vynecrest, Clover Hill, and Pinnacle Ridge. It was my first time attending after hearing wonderful reviews from people throughout the valley. It definitely lived up to the hype and was a great way to sample local wines and foods. We started the day at Vynecrest for Mr. Bill’s Turkey BBQ on a fresh...

Blue Monkey Gets Bonked For Selling Kids Beer
Here’s one for Pletka & Co… lehighvalley: While I’ve only been to the Blue Monkey in Catasauqua a few times, I always thought it was a pretty decent sports bar, a good change of pace to the chains or once I see on a regular basis. Hell, Obama even mentioned the owner of the place in a speech. He was like “so, this guy owns blue monkey and he employees people, totally awesome.” ...

langer: Aristotle assumed all bodies to naturally be at rest. Aristotle also never rode the New York City subway. In Boston the subways are like some awkward, post-surgical graft on the city that never quite took. Travelers assume an entirely different posture once boarded: conversation halts, and every passenger—even when in the company of friends—assumes a state of isolation. It’s as if city...
